No Good Tea Goes Unpunished
Catering her childhood friend’s beachfront wedding was a dream come true for Everly Swan. With hundreds of guests in attendance, it was great exposure for her new iced tea shop and café. But when the well-to-do groom is found floating face down in the surf, the locals of Charm, North Carolina, turn their suspicions to his new bride. Could she have been so desperate to lay her hands on his fortune that she arranged for his murder before they even set off on their honeymoon?
Everly knows her love-struck friend couldn’t be behind the murder, but with clues pointing in several directions, she can’t decide which wedding guest is the most likely culprit. Meanwhile, the frustratingly handsome Detective Hays has made it clear that Everly should stay out of the investigation altogether. With a killer on the loose and a feeling that someone is watching her café very closely, Everly knows that if she can’t solve this murder soon, her cake might be iced for good.
Series: Seaside Café Mysteries – Book #2
Author: Bree Baker
Genre: Cozy Mystery/Tea Shop/Culinary
Publisher: Sourcebooks Landmark
Rating:
With a modern twist on the old-fashioned tea shop, Bree Baker has crafted a deliciously fun mystery. No Good Tea Goes Unpunished, coming soon from Sourcebooks Landmark https://www.sourcebooks.com/. This new addition to the series is a marvelous piece of work. It sucks in the reader and keeps hold until the very end.
Everly loves the town of Charm, and it truly is. It has everything a person could ask for and so much more. She has a soft spot for the residents of this seaside tourist town. When her childhood friend asks her to cater her big society wedding, she doesn’t hesitate. Everything goes right on schedule, and everyone is enjoying themselves, right up to the moment she finds the groom dead in the water, and his new bride, nowhere to be found.
Characters in this book are as charming as the town. They are well-rounded and likable. Amelia, her best friend, and her two very eccentric aunts bring the story together and make it personal, warm and entertaining. A slight budding romance may be in the works with the local detective. If Everly can ever get over her broken heart and the family curse that says women of the family are not allowed to have love in their life for long. So far, the curse has worked, even if she doesn’t believe in it. Provided of course that she doesn’t get herself killed while trying to help her friend clear her name.
The killer isn’t a big secret, yet many will find the outcome a surprise as to the motive. The plot has enough twists and turns to keep the reader turning the page. It is fast-paced with clues that are easy to understand and follow. No Good Tea Goes Unpunished is a highly enjoyable read that will be hard to put down. I happily recommend this book and series to lovers of other tea/food style cozies, and anyone who wants something new and interesting to read.
